What do you like doing on your day off?
Spending time with my wife and children - what we do doesn't really
matter - it's just great to be with them.
If you were to choose your favourite meal what would it be, where and
why?
With my wife at a really good seafood specialist restaurant in Beijing -
because she loves seafood and we would both love to go to China to see
the history and our friends there.
What has been your proudest moment?
So far, lifting up my son when he was newly born - the joy and sheer
amazement of becoming a father (together with a good dose of relief) was
truly amazing. That beats any graduation ceremony, award or appointment
What was the most frightening moment of your life?
Shortly before the most joyful moment when there was a false alarm that
something was going wrong with my wife's labour. I felt lost in the
flurry of activity.
How would you describe your taste in clothes?
Whatever's on the rail in M&S that fits me and isn't either too
expensive or too traditional. Favourite outfit would be a grandpa shirt'
with jeans.
What would you do if you won a million pounds?
Pay off the mortgage then invest some to provide a steady income, invest
some more to provide a scholarship trust for theological students, save
some for my children's future and give the rest away to Tearfund.
What music do you like?
Anything and everything except techno and dance - plus if there are
words I want them to be meaningful and good poetry. Favourites are U2,
Bach, Keith Green and Mozart.
Describe your best ever holiday. What would your dream holiday be?
Best holidays of the past were family times in Devon - I love
sight-seeing, visiting historical buildings and museums and sampling
local food and culture. Nowadays I would love a city-break in Europe
with my wife.
What is your greatest remaining ambition?
To see my children growing up to love the Lord Jesus and, if I live long
enough, to see their children and tell them his story too. After that,
to write a book that will help people towards faith and be worth
publishing.
If you could spend a day with a celebrity whom would you choose?
The Prime Minister (whoever it is at the time and assuming that counts
as a celebrity) - to see the internal workings of government, to learn
about his or her values and to try to suggest the importance of the
Christian faith
If you were stranded on a desert island what three things would you
want with you?
My Bible, a Kindle with all my books on it and a solar charger for the
Kindle.
