Jonathan McMahon

JONATHAN McMahon, 16, from Lisburn is a pupil at Rathmore Grammar School studying English Literature, History and Spanish Language/Literature for A Level. He recently spent a week on work experience at the Star as he was keen to see what being a journalist is like.

What do you like doing on your day off?
Some days I'll stay in and spend time with my siblings, watch TV, read a bit, lounge around the house. Other days I'm more active, I'll be up early getting a shower and into Belfast to see my friends by 11 am.

If you were to choose your favourite meal what would it be, where and why?
When I was younger my favourite meal would have probably been pizza or burger/ chips however nowadays I prefer Chinese or Asian food. I tend to stick with the Rice or Noodles but I also enjoy Curry. I love the Chicken Ramen from Wagamama, a Noodle restaurant in Victoria Square in Belfast but I also tend to love most meals from generic American restaurants too, like TGIF's.

What has been your proudest moment?
My proudest moment was when I achieved the grades to get back into Sixth Year.

What was the most frightening moment of your life?
Probably when I was younger on my Quad. I was just driving it around the back yard of my Grandmother's house. At the time my Grandfather owned a Lorry driving business. Coincidentally I drove the quad into the front of the lorry, which was parked stationary at the side. At this time I honestly have no idea how I did it, but I ended up flying underneath the lorry face first. I had a long scar all the way down my back whereas my front was just scratched and bruised. Nevertheless I was fine afterwards.

What was the most embarrassing moment in your life?
When I was younger I remember standing in a shop with my dad. All I remember is being so over excited because we were getting something nice to eat. I ran up and jumped and hugged my dad who was standing at the window. It wasn't until about 10 seconds after I jumped on him that I realised this was not my dad and instead a newly married man who was rather quite daunted by having a seven year old boy jump up onto him calling him daddy.

How would you describe your taste in clothes?
Generally, comfortable clothes.

What would you do if you won a million pounds?
Probably save most of it until I was out of education. Then I would spend money on my friends and family and then after that save the rest of the money for myself. I would most likely travel to all of the countries I wanted to but keep some for the future. I doubt I would have much left to be honest because I'm terrible at saving money.

What music do you like?
I like most types of music, especially pop music. I also have a keen interest in music of other countries in other languages. I listen out for good songs in Spanish because I'm studying Spanish at the moment.

Describe your best ever holiday. What would your dream holiday be?
My best holiday ever would have to have been when me and my family went to the USA in the June/July of 2010. I also loved how different it was, nothing like it was on TV My dream holiday now would probably be somewhere more exotic like Asia.

What is your greatest remaining ambition?
My ambition in life is probably to travel. Another ambition is to get a good job too, something my parents tell me often.

If you were stranded on a desert island. what three things would you want with you?
A friend my laptop and food/water.
