Tanya Coulter
TANYA Coulter, 27, from Lisburn is currently rediscovering student life at Belfast Metropolitan College studying for a Diploma in Newspaper Journalism. She recently spent a week at the Star on work experience.
What do you like doing on your day off?
I'm quite low maintenance so lunch with a few friends, some window
shopping and enough time to read a book cover to cover suits me fine.
If you were to choose your favourite meal what would it be, where and
why?
Although I'm vegetarian I'm actually quite adventurous with my
food, so if there's something on the menu I haven't tried before that's
usually what I'll order-the more random and exotic the location the
better.
What has been your proudest moment?
Probably finishing my degree. Moving to London for University was a big
step as I'd never lived away from home before but it made me a lot more
independent and self-assured.
What was the most frightening moment of your life?
I'm not sure it's happened yet. I'm in a Samba drum band and this summer
we are part; of a performance that's set to have an audience of over
20,000 people. I'm told the stage is pretty high up so the next few
months will definitely include nightmares about me falling off it.
How would you describe your taste in clothes?
Constantly evolving. This time last year it was a lot more put together
but I've discovered just how easy it is to slip back into the 'student
uniform' of skinny jeans, converse and a quirky t-shirt.
What would you do if you won a million pounds?
I would travel all day and write about traveling all night.
What was your most embarrassing moment?
There are far too many to list and certainly none I'd want published.
What music do you like?
I'm quite easy going when it comes to music, I like anything with a
strong vocal or a really good bassline but if I can dance to it I'm
happy.
Describe your best ever holiday. What would your dream holiday be?
My best friend Tiffany is from Trinidad and Tobago and the year after I
finished university I stayed with her for Carnival which was an amazing
experience as I got to join in all the festivities rather than just
watch. My dream holiday would be somewhere full of energy, history and
culture. I think Cuba would be a truly fascinating place to visit.
What is your greatest remaining ambition?
To feed Lemurs in Madagascar, learn to surf in Australia, celebrate
Chinese New Year in Beijing, hike the Inca Trail in Peru, go Jazz club
hopping in New Orleans and if there's time write a book about all of it!
If you could spend a day with a celebrity whom would you choose?
I'd love to spend a day with Maya Angelou as I imagine she would have
the most amazing stories to tell. Anyone who needs six volumes to fit
their life into an autobiography would be fantastic company.
If you were stranded on a desert island what three things would you
want with you?
I'll take my i-pod, a good book and lots of sunscreen.
